Tonight (12th Feb) Steve Collison will be talking to the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne on the results of our recent archaeological excavations at Binchester Roman Fort
“In the long hot summer of 2018 a dedicated group of volunteers opened up a large new trench and a new chapter in the archaeological investigations at Binchester Roman Fort. This time the excavations were a joint venture between The Auckland Project, a community-focused regeneration scheme; David Mason, Principal Archaeologist at Durham County Council Archaeological Services; and Northern Archaeological Associates, a commercial archaeological contractor. The talk will outline the archaeological focus of the project, some of the preliminary results and engage with aspects of community involvement in modern archaeological practice.”
