You may be familiar with the many beautiful and fascinating finds we have shown over the years from the A1 motorway scheme project. We are now reaching a point when it is time to prepare the archive for its final home with York Museums Trust.
Now that the reporting and analysis work required for the publication is coming to an end, we have been working closely with the Museum to create a usable archive that will aid in future research going forward. Over the next few months at NAA the Post Excavation team will organise and accession the nearly 2000 boxes of material from the project for its eventual deposit with the museum.
To find out more about the A1 project, the monographs Death Burial and Identity: 3000 Years of Death in the Vale of Mowbray and Contact, Concord and Conquest: Britons and Romans at Scotch Corner can be found on the Archaeology Data Service. Our final monograph Establishment, Consolidation and Retreat will be released by early 2021.
