Signet rings such as this were thought to have been used to impress wax seals like the example found in our #FindsFriday seal box. This example comprises an oval banded agate intaglio set in an iron finger-ring. The design shows two grazing cattle, reflecting the Roman ideal of the countryside as a place of peace and prosperity. The residents of Scotch Corner certainly seem to have enjoyed some of the finer things in life as we discovered from the excavations for the #A1upgrade.
